IEFOA, GSL, District 7 work together to address air quality concerns

The Inland Empire Football Association, the Greater Spokane League and District 7 schools now have a standard protocol for dealing with air quality concerns. The measures were put in place after most varsity, sub-varsity and youth-level football games were postponed or canceled September 7th and 8th because of hazardous air conditions.

The protocol, sent to IEFOA officials via email on Saturday, outlines the steps to be taken before football games are played, delayed or canceled on the count of poor air quality.

Referees are asked to include the air quality protocol in their pre-game discussions. The guidelines identify who is responsible to monitor air quality. They also detail the mechanics of suspending play, such as what information should be recorded and communicated to the assigner.
